When an innocent man is condemned to die for crimes he did not commit, our humanity cries out and we have an obligation to act. Because such an injustice strikes at the very heart of what it means to be human, we have created this website in connection with a legally registered Trust Fund. Our mission is to help Anthony obtain financial assistance and other support services as we bring awareness to his unjust conviction and death sentence. From the very beginning Anthony has always maintained his innocence and we now know his trial was a travesty of justice.
Imagine being arrested for murdering people whom you say you did not kill. Because you are black and judicially declared indigent, you are not able to have your own capital defense lawyers. As a result, the Louisiana district court appoints attorneys to represent you. However, those attorneys show no real interest in your innocence or in taking your case to trial. When you complain to the judge multiple times about such attorneys, nothing is done. You then decide you’re better off representing yourself even though you have no legal training. As a consequence, the trial judge refuses to provide you with sufficient funding for various defense experts and investigators. In Anthony’s case, this is what happened and it was a clear violation of his constitutional rights to a fair trial. To be sure, Anthony remains on Death Row and is currently petitioning the federal courts for a new trial.
Because Louisiana had the highest reversal rate in America, we believe Anthony’s federal habeas petition will be granted and a retrial ordered. Indeed, we now need your assistance and support so that Anthony will have a fair opportunity to prove his innocence. All monetary donations will be used to hire lawyers, forensic experts, investigators, and to obtain other necessary resources while Anthony seeks judicial relief from his unjust conviction and death sentence. We are asking for your help so that Anthony’s quality of life is not diminished not extinguished for crimes he did not commit. Any amount you give in donations will be deeply appreciated. All funds raised by this worthy cause will be deposited into a commercial banking “Trust Fund” account for the purpose of sustaining Anthony’s life in opposition of the death penalty. Trustees of the account will ensure such funds are used only for the purpose in which it is being sought.

It is unfortunate that Anthony Bell was allowed to represent himself at trial. From the very beginning he has always maintained his innocence of the church shooting and the killing of his wife. Had Anthony been represented by competent attorneys with the aid of qualified investigators and forensic experts, he would not be awaiting an execution date for crimes he did not commit. Indeed, after reviewing the criminal case files, it is more likely than not that Erica Bell was the shooter. It’s plausible that when she heard Anthony confess to having an affair with her mother, Mrs Claudia Brown (church pastor), she became enraged and shot those in attendance. Anthony believes had he not been holding their infant child that fateful day, he would not be alive to tell us what actually happened.
Trial evidence reveals that after the church shooting, Anthony drove his wife and infant child to an apartment complex where Erica was shot behind the right ear while sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Anthony made a 911 call crying for help, stating his wife shot herself. A bystander can be heard talking with the same 911 operator attesting to the same facts. When police arrived, a firearm was found in Erica’s right hand. Because it was physically impossible for Anthony to be the shooter from inside the vehicle, the state’s case was that Anthony had to be standing outside the vehicle on the passenger side when allegedly shooting his wife. At trial, the parish coroner and forensic pathologist, a Dr. Corrigan, testified that Anthony shot his wife from a distance of 2 to 3 feet. However, video surveillance footage from the apartment complex contradicts the prosecution’s case that Anthony shot his wife. The prosecution’s case against Anthony is riddled with inconsistencies. The only surviving gunshot victim from the church shooting was Mrs Claudia Brown. She originally stated Anthony was the shooter but at trial testified that she did not see Anthony shoot anyone. The only other eyewitness was a six year old girl who stated to authorities that what she said we’re things she saw on TV about Anthony being the shooter. Not only did the trial judge restrict Anthony from presenting a thorough defense, the prosecutor took advantage of Anthony representing himself. For these and other reasons, Anthony needs your help and financial support.
If Anthony was not the shooter who killed his wife and did not have possession of the firearm at the apartment complex where Erica shot herself in the head, then a reasonable doubt exist that Anthony was the shooter at the church.
